Nefer (formerly 9ja Settlement) is a secure money transfer platform that lets you send and receive money quickly and affordably between Canada and Nigeria. We offer competitive exchange rates, zero transfer fees, and a fast, transparent user experience.
Yes. Nefer is registered with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) as a Money Services Business (MSB) and is recognised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). We comply with strict regulatory and security standards to protect your funds and personal information.
Yes. To comply with Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations, all users must provide their Bank Verification Number (BVN) during account verification. This protects the security and integrity of the platform.
Identity verification (KYC) is a regulatory requirement, not just a Nefer policy. As a registered Money Services Business, we are required by FINTRAC, and recognised by the Central Bank of Nigeria, to confirm who our users are before they can move money. This protects you from fraud and identity theft, and it protects the platform from being used for illegal activity. You cannot load funds or transact until verification is complete.
The Nefer app is available on the Google Play Store (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS). Search for "Nefer" and download the app.
You do not need to create a new account. Your existing 9ja Settlement account is being migrated to the new Nefer app. Download the Nefer app from the App Store or Google Play, log in with your existing details, and your wallet balances and transaction history will carry over automatically. We will let you know in-app if any extra verification step is needed as part of the migration.
Nefer currently supports transfers between Nigeria and Canada, with Nigeria to Canada as our primary corridor. We are continuously expanding and will add more countries soon.
Nefer currently supports Canadian Dollars (CAD) and Nigerian Naira (NGN). You can hold a CAD wallet and an NGN wallet on the same account. Support for additional currencies will depend on future market and partner expansion.
Yes. Customer funds are held in a dedicated account, in line with Bank of Canada requirements. Combined with our FINTRAC registration, CBN recognition, and identity verification checks, this keeps your money safeguarded and your account secure.
Nefer supports multiple devices. When you log in on a new device, we'll ask you to verify it before you can transact, so your account stays secure.
Account restrictions are usually placed for a compliance or security reason, such as an incomplete verification step or unusual account activity. Contact Customer Support with your registered email and transaction reference number, if applicable, and our team will let you know what is needed to lift the restriction.
Sending money on Nefer is free. We do not charge transfer fees.
You can reach Customer Support at [email protected] or through the in-app help option. To help us assist you faster, include your transaction reference number if your question relates to a specific transfer or payment.
